There have been many unique venues that have raised funds for many deserving organizations. We have experienced casinos, boutiques and fashion shows, Big Galas, small personal jazz events, Dogs, motorcycles, horses, cats…but the people and their causes are the most special.

With the support of its sponsors, the Krispy Kreme Challenge has grown from 10 participants in 2004 to an expected 7,500 participants this February. Registration has already exceeded 7,000.

“We are thankful for the community’s continued support of our event,” says Rebekah Jewell, North Carolina State University Park Scholar and public relations co-chair for the Krispy Kreme Challenge. “Without the contributions of our sponsors, our event would not be able to continue to grow as it has over the last seven years.”

To complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge, competitors begin at the N.C. State Bell Tower, run two miles to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, eat a dozen glazed doughnuts, and then run two miles back to the Bell Tower—all in under one hour. The event is also open to casual runners, who are not required to eat the doughnuts, and to supporters who want to make a donation. A celebration of reading with children

Lucy’s Book Club, launched in May 2009, is a gift from the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood to the community. The program encourages parents to read to their children and guides children’s social and emotional growth by recommending, three times a year, a list of books built around developmental themes such as “Learning to Like Myself” and “Welcoming a New Brother/Sister.” Bookmarked! will celebrate the book club’s first year and help to raise both awareness and funding for the Center’s Family Support Fund.

An Evening with Judith Viorst Bookmarked! will conclude with a fundraising event, “An Evening with Judith Viorst,” on Sunday, June 6, in Kenan Recital Hall at Peace College in Raleigh. In addition to her lecture, “Loves, Losses, and Wicked Thoughts,” and a brief program, guests will have an opportunity to meet Ms. Viorst at a reception in her honor in the Main Hall parlor and adjacent courtyard.

Six of the Triangle’s most celebrated Chefs will push their culinary talent to the limit by creating a “Dish from the Heart.” Each Chef was asked to recreate a dish based on a personal story. VOTE for your favorite chef by sending a donation to Meals on Wheels of Wake County.
The chef that receives the most donations to Meals on Wheels will receive the “People’s Choice” Award.     The Chef’s Challenge judges are:

• Ed Brantley and Heba Salama – 2008 winners of The Biggest Loser Competition

LIVE AUCTION    Live auction during the competition! Each of the three dinners being prepared at the event will be offered during a live auction. The winning bids will receive dinner for four and will eat with the chef and one of the celebrity judges at the conclusion of the competition.        Other auction items include a plasma TV donated by Garner TV & Appliance, a premium racing package at Rush Hour Karting, and more.

RAFFLE ITEMS   We will also have a spectacular raffle, featuring dinner gift certificates, a deluxe coffee maker, spa packages, and more.
